Leadership Values

Prayer

John 15:5 – ” If you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Without Christ, we can do nothing.  We cannot know the will of God and we cannot lead the church.  Prayer will not be a token offering or something we only talk about, but an emphasis in all we do.  Lord, ‘Let your Kingdom come, your will be done…”

Unity

John 17:20-22 – “I pray…that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

Dissension in leadership is one of the most destructive things a church can go through.  To this end, we will ruthlessly seek the unity of God.  We will submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.  We will consider the other better than ourselves.  We will pray for each other and love one another.  If we fail to love one another, we fail to lead the church.

Adaptability

2 Corinthians 3:6 – “[God] has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

A church plant will be chaotic.  But our goal is not stability.  Our goal is not to establish the precedents which we will follow for the rest of our existence.  Our goal is faithfulness to the Spirit of God.  We will make the pragmatic decisions we need to in order to be faithful and we will be open to change these decisions as the Spirit of God directs us anew.

Creativity

Psalm 144:9 – “I will sing a new song to you, O God.

The Creator God, who created the awe-inspiring universe out of nothing, also created humanity in his image.  We were made to be creators.  Church planting can never be a cut and paste from a previous church, but must always be an act of creativity.  Christ is incarnated new every time the Body of Christ is created new.  Therefore, we need dreamers, risk-takers, artists of all types and talents, and those who yearn to see taste the beauty of God in new ways.

Joy

John 10:10 – “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Church leadership involves difficult decisions, times of stress, and a commitment to do things we don’t always want to do.  There is no requirement that church leadership be miserable, though.  We rejoice in the love of God.  We will rejoice in stories of redemption.  We will have fun together.  We will celebrate one another.  The God of love has called us to lead others into this love through the cross of Christ – and this is awesome!
